8 Direction Cuts (Bokken)
Jo/bokken continuation
-Shite w/ jo LF and Uke w/ bokken RF
-Shite raises jo to R shoulder Junte Haso (both thumbs point to one end of the jo)
as Uke raises bokken to jodan
-as Uke front strikes (down to waist), Shite RF C/S O/L & LF pivots 45 degrees and side strike at Uke's L temple
-Uke shuffles back and aligns with Shite as raise bokken to jodan
-Shite slides RH to end of jo and raises jo up to L shoulder Honte haso (thumbs point to each other)
-as Uke front strikes (down to waist), Shite LF C/S O/L & RF pivots 45 degrees and front strike at Uke's R wrist
-Uke shuffles back and aligns with Shite as raise bokken to jodan
-Shite shuffle back (LF) and raises jo to overhead block (held over forehead, front end slightly lower, LH grasping less than centre of jo)
-as Uke front strikes (down to waist), Shite's LF shuffles right O/L and RF reverse 45 degree pivot than thrust jo down between Uke's wrists.
-Shite rotates the jo to vertical position and this will hook Uke's R wrist and turn to the left. Uke's LH releases bokken and continues to rotate around til facing Shite. Uke should be up to jodan at end of rotation. Shite moves back to Junte Haso to begin sequence of techniques.
-this will develop timing and maii (distance) with a partner
Protocol for exchanging weapons with partner
- turn your weapon to be parallel to mat and held forward at elbow height
- blade toward self and handle on left side
- step toward partner and adjust height, bokken is always held higher then jo or tanto
- simultaneously and as you bow, grasp partner's weapon with RH and properly hold weapon on left side as step back into kamae ni rei
- step back to starting position
